IN GRAD BASSA, NEW JNB FOUNDATION GRADUATES PLAN TO ENTER PIG-FARMING

About 18 people, largely women, residing within the Behneewein Township near Cotton Tree, along Buchanan Highway, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, received certificates following a two-day intensive training in pig farming. The program, undertaken by the Joseph Nyuma Boakai Foundation, forms part of the current administration’s efforts to eradicate illiteracy nationwide and to empower women to cultivate household incomes for their families as well. Meanwhile, at the graduation ceremony which took place near the town, the new graduates expressed interest in engaging in pig-farming and requested the JNB Foundation’s new management to help provide them with piglets as well as funding for building shelters for the business.

This photo shows the graduates and their trainers on Aug. 31, 2024, the day of their graduation program in Behneewein, Grand Bassa County.

In response, the JNB Foundation’s Executive Director, Mr. Jackson K. George promised to help the prospective pig-farmers but added that they would first have to show interest and put in seriousness in order for his foundation to commit more funding towards such projects and continue the same across the country. The seminar started in mid August after the townspeople and nearby villagers expressed interest in doing their own animal husbandry. Mr. Jackson George led a team from the foundation’s Rehab Community Headquarters to the event which brought together, residents from surrounding towns and villages;
